Born in 1973. Studied anthropology. Her first book, Hanene Ay Doğacak (The Future Looks Bright), was published in 1993 and awarded the Yunus Nadi Short Story Prize. Her other books are: Öykümü Kim Anlatacak? (Who Will Tell My Story?, short stories, 1994), Eski Dostum Kertenkele (My Old Buddy Lizard, novel, 1996), Neşeli Kadınlar Arasında (Amongst Joyful Women, essays, 2000), Kaderimin Efendisi (The Master of My Fate, short stories, 2001), Sarmaşık (Ivy, novel, 2002), Çöplük (The Garbage Dump, novel, 2004), Resmigeçit (Parade, novel 2008), and Kirpiklerimin Gölgesinde (In the Shadow of my Eyelashes, novel, 2010).

She became a mother in 1998, when she gave birth to her daughter Tamar. Şebnem İşigüzel lives in Istanbul and earns her living as a writer.
